Superintendent’s Highlight of the Week
November 10, 2016
This week our schools created a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their appreciation for the men and women of our community who have courageously served our country with distinction. Students in POBMS Leadership MAP classes spent the days preparing for this joyous tradition, by baking goods to serve the veterans and creating cards and posters to display their gratitude. They donated money to help support homeless veterans throughout Long Island.
Patriotism proudly filled the POBMS halls as talented musicians sang and performed select patriotic tunes, including “Proud to be an American”. Students commented that this event was a great opportunity for them to demonstrate their gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country, and also, to interact with and learn from another generation of Americans. The smiles on students’ faces was contagious, as they learned about the sacrifice and devotion made by the veterans, but also, about what their lives and experiences have taught them. The veterans of Beacon House deeply appreciated the gift cards to Stop & Shop given as a small token of appreciation.
Close by second graders in Ms. Rosenbloom’s class at Stratford Road were busy writing their letters of appreciation to the veterans. A sample of a letter is included here to convey their feelings about our best and bravest. On days like this, it truly is an honor to be an American.
Thank you, students for reminding us of the important service our Veterans provided to our country!
