Mathematic March Madness for Charity
The Old Bethpage Elementary School community recently held the first installment of its St. Jude Hospital ® Math-A-Thon, intended to help raise donations in support of children battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases. The math marathon fundraiser will take place throughout the month of March at the elementary school.
During the kickoff assembly Old Bethpage Elementary School staff dressed up in costume as ‘The Numerators’ which are super heroes featured in the St. Jude Hospital ® Math-A-Thon Funbook, produced as a joint venture between Scholastic and St. Jude. Students will use the Funbook throughout the month to solve math problems for charity.
Family, friends, merchants and community members are asked to show their encouragement, recognition and support of the student’s participation in the Math-a-thon by becoming a sponsor and pledging a set amount in donation for a child in grades kindergarten through fourth to complete math problems. In the past, Plainview-Old Bethpage Elementary has raised over $17,000. This year, staff and students are aiming to raise $20,000 to donate to St. Jude.
