In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day, students at the Kindergarten Center had the opportunity to participate in a Seuss-themed celebration in the library. Balloons, streamers, and Dr. Seuss characters decorated the library to create a festive atmosphere where students enjoyed learning about Dr. Seuss as an important author and illustrator, listening to and participating in read-alouds of some of his classic stories, and taking part in various fun and educational centers inspired by his books.
Students had a great time trying out the various centers located around the library, each of which targeted a different learning objective and had a fun Dr. Seuss theme. At the “decorate a hat” center, students were able to express their artistic creativity as they designed their own hats like the one from Dr. Seuss’s iconic book The Cat in the Hat. Some students even decided to add some rhyming words to their hats! At the “fish up some numbers” center, inspired by the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, students enjoyed practicing their counting skills by catching numbered red, blue, and yellow fish in numerical order. Several centers focused on different literacy skills, including a Green Eggs and Ham-themed center where students could “cook up a rhyme” by matching rhyming words written on the back of green “eggs” that they revealed by flipping the eggs over with a spatula.
